Those of you who know me can attest to the fact that pizza is my absolute favourite food. Having a get-together with the girls? Go for pizza! Hungover and in need of carbs? Leftover pizza! Want a fun food where people can get involved in choosing toppings? Make pizza! To be honest, I’m actually eating leftover pizza right now as I write this post (shout-out to Domino’s for their cheap Monday night pizza deals!!)
So, without further ado, here is a list of my favourite pizza joints in and around Montreal (I even included a bonus one in Niagara Falls Ontario!)
NDG
5205 Sherbrooke St W, Montreal, QC H4A 1T7
I have recommended this place to so many of my friends and family! A small and welcoming authentic BYOW (bring your own wine) pizza joint on Sherbrooke street (not far from Vendome Metro), this is always my go-to restaurant when I’m feeling the pizza urge. This tiny restaurant only fits about 30ish people and is super popular, so it’s important to reserve ahead of time. I’ve lost count the number of times I’ve been here and the quality and service are always exceptional. My favourite pizza is the mozzarella di bufala (mozzarella)/salsiccia (sausage)/funghi (mushroom) pizza pictured below. The picture really doesn’t do it justice! It’s super delicious and I must admit, it’s very difficult not to devour it all in a matter of minutes! Their Nutella pizza is also delicious and a “must” when out with friends. One rule though – no sharing! You can understand by the size of the restaurant and the BYOW option that they make their money selling pizzas (pizzas are about $20/each). Stop what you’re doing, make a reservation for Pummaro, thank me later.
Ahuntsic (north-east montreal)
1465 Rue Dudemaine, Montréal, QC H3M 1P9
The minute you step into this family-run eatery, you feel at home. I have always been served by the same waiter (unfortunately I haven’t caught his name), but his friendly smile and witty jokes always make my experience enjoyable. My good friend Guido Grasso owns this restaurant, and I can honestly say that everything I have tasted their feels like it was made at home. Calamari – delicious. Pasta and sauce – exquisite. Pizza – AMAZING! You need to check this place out. And while you’re at it, YouTube Guido Grasso to see some of his exceptional comedy skits. Just make sure to put down your slice of pizza first so you don’t choke while you die with laughter!
NDG/Lachine/Westmount/Downtown
Multiple locations
I started going to Bacaro a few years ago at it’s original location in Westmount. My go-to pizza every time was the Zaza (red peppers, mushrooms and sausage) and to end the meal, their delicious Nutella fritters of course! Every time I go, I’m amazed at how young, friendly and professional the waiters and waitresses are. Family fun environment all the way. They’ve actually expanded to a few more locations – Monkland in NDG, Lachine and now the Faubourg building in downtown Montreal! Soon, they’ll be opening a 5th location in Rockland on Jean-Talon.
Niagara Falls
5983 Clark Ave, Niagara Falls, ON L2G 3W3
So this one requires a pretty long drive but hey, nothing says “romantic getaway” more than a little road-trip and eating delicious pizza while watching the iconic Niagara Falls! They have an extensive pizza list and years of experience to give you exactly the pizza you are looking for! Paired with a nice Peroni beer, what more do you want? I don’t quite remember what I ordered when I went (possibly the Calabrese?) but my adventurous hubby ordered the “Come Esce T’a Mangi”, which roughly translates to “however it comes out, you’ll eat it!” (essentially, it’s up to the chef!). We loved everything about this pizzeria…from the freshness of the ingredients and homemade dough to Sofia’s beautiful smile (the owner) as we walked into her restaurant. The last time we went was over 2 years ago, so it’s definitely time for another road trip soon!
Home sweet home
The last place I recommend? Chez Dee (aka MEEEEEE!). The hubby and I LOVE hosting pizza parties. It takes a LOT of work to prepare (waking up early to make the dough and chopping all of the ingredients) but it’s definitely worth it. When we bought our BBQ a couple of years, we bought a pizza stone that you add to your BBQ. The outcome? Super delicious thin-crust homemade pizza. I’m sharing the picture of us attempting to bring our BBQ home in the Fiat because I think it’s hilarious, not because it’s related to this pizza article or anything. ANYWAYS, sometimes we use the BBQ pizza stone but sometimes we opt for traditional homemade oven pizza. Equally as good but VERY different. What’s fun about making pizzas at home is you can get everyone involved, even the kids! Shout-out to Emma for making absolutely delicious pizzas for Franco’s birthday party in February. Woot woot!
