Halloween is around the corner and I’m definitely not ready. Not at all. I could assume that turning 28 my priorities have changed…or I can just admit that I’ve been extremely lazy and unmotivated. But when I started thinking about all the things I want/need to do, I keep telling myself that I just may be too old for all of this stuff…or maybe I’m just having an “off” year. Regardless, here are some of my Halloween struggles and suggestions!
First thing I needed to tackle was a work costume. I’ve always been the super inspiring one in my offices, urging everyone else to join in on the festive fun and dress up (see my amazing bestie and I dressed as a cop capturing Carmen Sandiego below). But this year has been a struggle. For once in my life, I went to the dollar store and bought wings and a halo and called it a day. Two thumbs WAY up for the cheapy adorable angel look! Pair it with a nice white dress and maybe my comfy Uggs and I’m all set.
Then I got hit with the “am I going out to party?” thought. Hell no. Not this year. Halloween fell on a Tuesday last year but that didn’t stop me from dolling up like Snow White and dancing all night at Rouge with my sexy construction man husband (truth be told, he dressed like that so he could head straight to work after…what a trooper!). This won’t be happening this year though but at least I have a friend’s party on Saturday night. I might show up in my pink piggy onesie for the sake of comfort but hey, at least I’m going!
Also, when do you get too old to pull off “sexy”costumes? I think the question should actually be when do you get tired of the sexy costumes and opt for comfort instead? This is definitely the direction I’m going in with that onesie…we all know Halloween is just an excuse to eat a lot of candy and not feel guilty! Which is definitely what I have been doing. Enjoy it!!
One thing I do suggest though, try out some cool (but easy) Halloween baking. Last year I made these squished witch cupcakes which were a total hit! I also bought plastic glasses at the dollar store, filled them with chocolate pudding, added a layer of crushed oreos and let candy worms hang out. Super simple, looks gross but was absolutely delicious. Mission accomplished!
Another suggestion? Start a tradition! My friends and I are going on year 3 of a pumpkin carving contest. Super cheap, simple and just a bit messy (that’s a lie, I refuse to do this at my house because of all the pumpkin guts that get everywhere!). We each carve our own pumpkins then put pictures up online to have our friends rate them. Winner gets a trophy and pride in knowing they kicked butt! Also, we have an endless supply of roasted pumpkin seeds. DEE-LICIOUS!
Now, please excuse me while I go out and buy more candy. We all know that the first box I bought never even came close to making it to October 31st.
